Cichlasoma Octofasciatum
Cichlasoma octofasciatum is commonly called the "Jack Dempsey" because of its ferociousness. It is a truly beautiful fish, always displaying magnificent colors that tend not to change much and are also permanent. The Jack Dempsey can stand the normal fluctuation of temperature from 60° to 90° F. without any trouble, though the color is at its best around 82° F.
After a year, the fish may reach 4 inches in length, usually getting larger and more colorful as it gets older. It breeds as we would expect any of the cichlids to breed and is an exceptionally good parent, though it must not be disturbed too frequently.
A pair of Dempseys breed best when they are kept in a 20-gallon tank by themselves. They may be kept with their young and usually take excellent care of them.
