Cichlasoma Severum
Cichlasoma severum fish grows a little larger than 5 inches long and will get along nicely in a 10- or 20-gallon aquarium. Conditioning before mating is very important, and they should be fed live food or chopped earthworms for a few weeks before trying to spawn them. They will show little color at temperatures below 78° F. Sex may be determined by a comparison of the dorsal and anal fins. As always, the male fins are longer and more pointed. The male is also more highly colored, being covered during high color with rows of parallel dots. The female has at times faded vertical bands, though in a matter of seconds if frightened she may lose every bit of color she previously had.
