White Cloud Mountain Minnow
This almost cold-water fish originally found near Canton, China is so hardy and easy to care for and it breeds so readily that it is highly recommended for beginners.
A small tank, five gallons or so, filled with Nitella or other spawning grass is all that is necessary besides a healthy pair of fish. The White Clouds will eat dry foods, but they should be offered some live foods to keep them in shape. They spawn continuously, and as the eggs hatch the young look like miniature cardinal tetras. Infusoria is required for the fry as soon as they become free-swimming. The parents should be removed after they have been in the aquarium for a week or so. A long-finned variety is available from time to time.
